FAQ
Finding the right part
How do I know a part fits my vehicle? Four ways. Use the vehicle finder at the top of any page to pick your year, make, model and engine. Enter the number off your old unit in our cross reference lookup. Search by your OEM or interchange number in the search box. Or open any product page and use the "Does this fit your machine?" checker, which lists every vehicle and piece of equipment that unit covers. If you are still unsure, email us your details and we will confirm before you order.
What is a Lester number? Lester numbers are the standard industry reference for rotating electrical parts. Every starter and alternator has one, and it identifies the unit regardless of which brand box it came in. Our part numbers are Lester numbers, so if you know yours you can search it directly.
Your listing says "Fits / compatible with OEM 12345". Is this an OEM part? No. It is an aftermarket part built to work in the same application as that OEM number. We list OEM numbers so you can match what you already have. We never claim a part is original equipment unless it literally is.
I have the old unit in my hand. How do I match it? Start with our cross reference lookup. Type in any number stamped on the old unit, whether it is an OEM number, a competitor number or a Lester number, and it will show you the part that replaces it. If the number is not there, send us a photo of the tag or casting numbers along with your vehicle or equipment details. Cross referencing from the old unit is usually the most reliable way to get it right, and we are glad to do it for you.
What do the specs mean? Voltage is the system voltage, usually 12V or 24V. Amperage is an alternator's output. Rotation is the direction the unit turns as viewed from the drive end. Tooth count is the number of teeth on a starter drive gear. All of these have to match, not just the mounting. We explain every term, including the design codes like PMGR and IR/IF, on our starter and alternator terms page.
Ordering and shipping
How much is shipping? Free, on every order, within the United States. The price on the product page is the price you pay.
How fast will it ship? We process and hand off most orders within three business days. After that, typical delivery is 2 to 6 business days depending on where you are and the carrier.
Do you ship outside the United States? Not at this time.
Where does my order ship from? From within the United States. "Ships from USA" tells you where the order ships from. It is not a statement about where the part was manufactured.
Will I get tracking? Yes, on every order. We email the tracking number as soon as the label is created. If you have not seen it within three business days, check your spam folder and then contact us.
Returns
What is your return window? 30 days from delivery to request a return. The item has to be new, unused, uninstalled, and in its original packaging with all hardware.
Can I return a part I already installed? No. Electrical parts that have been installed, used, or show signs of installation cannot be returned, for safety and quality reasons. This is standard across the industry. If a part failed after install, that is a warranty matter and we will handle it under the warranty.
Is there a restocking fee? On a standard return, where you ordered the wrong part or changed your mind, there is a 20 percent restocking fee and you cover return shipping. If the part is defective or we shipped the wrong item, there is no fee and we pay the shipping both ways.
How do I start a return? Email support@powerhouse-supply.com with your order number before you ship anything back. We will send a return authorization and the right address. Returns sent without one can be delayed or refused. An authorization is good for 30 days.
How should I pack it? Put the part inside a shipping carton. Do not write on the product box or put tape or labels on it, because a marked up box lowers the value of the return. Include everything that came with the part.
My order arrived damaged. Contact us within 30 days of delivery with your order number and a few photos of the item and the packaging. We will make it right at no cost to you.
Warranty
What is covered? Starters and alternators carry a 1 year limited warranty from the delivery date against defects in materials and workmanship. Full detail is on our Warranty page.
What voids it? Improper installation, misuse, accident, normal wear, racing or off highway use, commercial or fleet service, or fitting the part to an application it was not listed for. Installing it yourself is fine. Installing it wrong is not.
Does using an aftermarket part void my vehicle warranty? Generally no. Under the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act a manufacturer cannot void your warranty just because you fitted an aftermarket part, unless they can show that part caused the failure.
How long does a claim take? Email us and we will start it the same day we hear from you. If the unit comes back for inspection we bench test it to confirm the fault, then send a replacement or refund what you paid for the part.
Core charges
Do you charge a core deposit? Almost everything we sell is new, not remanufactured, so most orders have no core charge at all. If a product does carry one it is shown as a separate line on the product page and again at checkout, so you always see it before you buy.
